Ines Varga trained as a scene painter at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, where she spent six years making skies that were only ever seen under stage light. She moved to Rotterdam in 2014 and has worked nights at the Maashaven grain silo since 2019.
Her paintings are made in two places: on shift, in graphite on scraps of linen taped to the crane window, and in the studio, where the drawings are scaled up in oil and rubbed back until only the lit things remain. Low Light Index, at After Hours in 2026, is her first institutional exhibition.
