Six exhibitions since the Koelhuis reopened in 2025: two on view tonight, two being hung, two in the archive. Every show runs through the old cold rooms, lit only as much as the work allows.

Ines Varga
Varga paints the harbour between three and five in the morning, when the cranes are lit and nobody is looking. One room has no lights at all.

Work jackets cast in concrete, one for each crew on the Waalhaven night shift. Each weighs what the docker who lent it did.

Photograms made without a camera, lamps that switch off when you look, slides that appear only once your eyes adjust. Four artists and one darkroom left open for the run.

A receiving station for the harbour at night. Ship-to-shore traffic, pilots and weather buoys, tuned live in three cold rooms.
